Leading Businesses, Foundations Kick Off Greenspace Campaign

Westchase District’s Greenspace for Westchase campaign to fund the planned Wilcrest Park is off to a strong start thanks to major donations from companies, organizations and foundations familiar to all Houstonians. The Greenspace campaign was created to cover the $3.2 million gap in funds necessary to build Wilcrest Park into a regional destination. Wilcrest Park will be built on a 3.5-acre parcel of land located on Wilcrest Drive immediately north of Robinson-Westchase Library and Westchase…..Read More

Mature Trees Relocated to Woodchase Park

Mature Trees Relocated to Woodchase Park

Highrise Live Oaks were planted originally by Westchase District in 2005. At that time, they were a newly-propagated tree. As its name suggests, they were supposed to grow tall, rather than have a wide canopy like a traditional Live Oak tree. That would have made them perfect for a streetscape environment. But these trees chose to grow “out,” rather than “up.” Westchase District has moved 17 of the trees to Woodchase Park, which is under…..Read More

Quillian Center Camps Open for Summer Fun

For 36 years, Quillian has offered summer camps, giving kids exceptional opportunities during the summer, while their parents go to work knowing their children are playing and having fun in a safe environment. COVID-19 halted many things, but it couldn’t halt camp, not very long anyway. “We were forced to close our spring break camp after just one day,” said Quillian Center Director Tom Gaden. Quillian was closed all of April and most of May…..Read More

The Wait is Over But Gets Heavy Again. Let’s Go!

The Wait is Over But Gets Heavy Again. Let’s Go!

For three months people stayed at home while their exercise routines went idle. Because how we work-out involves customized and individually-designed programs, gym closures made it difficult to continue well-established routines. Many at-home spaces lack nautilus machines, treadmills, free weights and indoor studios for cardio and pilates. In Westchase District there is no shortage of fitness centers. As restrictions on gym use were recently lifted, many in the District have reopened. Blink Fitness was the…..Read More

Westchase District is home to 31,000 residents living in multifamily communities, ranging from modest workforce housing to luxury living apartments. All that is about to change. The City of Houston has purchased two park sites in the area and Westchase District will develop…..Read More

District Installs Emergency Call Boxes Along Trail System

District Installs Emergency Call Boxes Along Trail System

In today’s world of constant connectivity, it seems everyone is tethered to electronic devices 24/7. But Don McKinney, Westchase District’s vice president of Public Safety, said it’s not uncommon for people exercising to be without their cell phones. That prevents them from being able to quickly alert authorities in the event of an emergency. As an added amenity, Westchase District recently installed eight emergency call boxes at various locations along the District’s trail system. The…..Read More
