METRO Bus Stops in Westchase District Receive a Facelift

Projects Director Louis Jullien is always looking for a way to bring new art to Westchase District. He’s the staff member responsible for bringing “muralitos” (the utility box murals found at intersections) to Westchase District and the billboard-sized murals that decorate the Library Loop Trail. More recently, he commissioned artist Larry Crawford to paint additional murals on the retaining walls on Rogerdale, bringing still more color and whimsy to the streets of Westchase District. Padding the District’s Public Safety Efforts

Picture this: surveillance cameras are trained on a Westchase District business. Monitoring software detects a group of individuals congregating in a corner of the parking lot and sends a notification to a patrol officer on duty. With a few finger taps, the officer then pulls up the video feed on an iPad and spreads his fingertips on the touchscreen to zoom in to get a better look at faces and to determine if he should…..Read More

Wilcrest Improvements to Begin in July

Westchase District motorists who use Wilcrest will enjoy the new improvements coming to the Wilcrest/Westheimer intersection. More than 80,000 vehicles travel through this busy intersection every day and the many possible turning movements that occur immediately north of the intersection can slow traffic and cause considerable congestion. "On Wilcrest just north of Westheimer, there are several misaligned driveways in close proximity to one another. That, coupled with the high traffic counts, creates a challenging traffic…..Read More

When Louis Jullien, Westchase District’s projects director, approached local artist Reginald Adams about creating public artwork for the trail involving youth from the community, Adams said mosaics were top of mind.…..Read More

City-wide Initiative Aims to Curb Panhandling and Homelessness

As the economy has faltered, more individuals stake out street corners, grab their cups and cardboard signs and solicit money from strangers. Their signs are plaintive: “lost job,” “single mom,” “unemployed veteran,” or “have cancer/no insurance.” Some motorists are motivated to help these individuals, handing out whatever spare change they have in their possession or distributing carefully-assembled plastic bags with toiletries and snacks. But how do you know that your donation is really helping someone…..Read More
