Parks and Natural Areas Awards Presented to Westchase District | WESTCHASE DISTRICT

Westchase District is pleased to announce that multiple projects were selected for recognition in the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) annual Parks and Natural Areas Award Program.

Westchase District received Honorable Mention Award for Trailside Park in the Projects On-the-Ground category under $500,000. The District also received Special Recognition Awards in the Planning Process category for Wilcrest Park and Woodchase Park.

The District hosted stakeholders and community representatives in 2017 for input in its planning process for future parks.

H-GAC established the Parks and Natural Areas awards program in 2006 to highlight best practices and innovative approaches to parks planning and implementation. H-GAC honors projects in the categories of Projects Over $500,000, Projects Under $500,000, Planning Process, and Policy Tools.

“H-GAC makes our region better and it’s a big honor to be recognized,” said Irma Sanchez, Westchase District’s vice president of projects. “Our projects are focused on enlivening the District community by creating and building green spaces in ways for all to enjoy. Whether it’s areas on our Trail System that have playgrounds for children, beautiful landscaping and fun visual art or planning for the best designs that will make Westchase District a destination in the region, it’s an exciting era for the District.”

Projects recognized by this awards program are selected by a panel of expert judges and industry professionals. Westchase District and other winners were honored during an online celebration on February 5.
