Corporate Challenge
Corporate Challenge Returns April 14
2023 marks 25th annual “field day for adults”
The first Corporate Challenge was a small event in 1998. Just a handful of teams participated in a half-day competition at Quillian Center and $1,056 was generated for charity. Fast forward 25 years and the event now draws more than 300 competitors each year in a day-log competition that generates thousands for charity. In fact, more than $306,000 has been generated for charities since the founding of Corporate Challenge.
Thanks to Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam who are Title Sponsors of the event again this year. This Westchase District-based engineering firm has supported this event for more than five years as Title Sponsor and competitor.
“We love being part of this event,” said Ricky Gonzalez, team leader at LAN. “Since our office is located within Westchase District, we feel a real pride in our community and in being part of Westchase District activities. Beyond that, we’re also pretty competitive, so it’s fun to just come out here and be one of the many businesses competing for prizes.”
Spring event returns
The 2022 Corporate Challenge was held in October, bring 35 teams together to participate in the Challenge. “We’re eager to return to the spring schedule and get Corporate Challenge back on track,” said Westchase District’s Vice President of Communications Sherry Fox. “The fact that this will be our 25th Corporate Challenge just makes it that much more special after returning from the pandemic-enforced hiatus,” added Fox, who organizes the annual event.
“We’re still determining what sporting events will be part of the Challenge,” said Fox, “and we’re busy recruiting sponsors for the 2023 event. These sponsors make it possible for our event to raise money for charity. All proceeds benefit the Westchase District Community Fund and Quillian Center’s summer day camps.
Contributions add up
The 2023 event raised more than $8,000 for charity. At an award ceremony hosted by the Houston Marriott Westchase, the Westchase District Community Fund presented a check to Quillian Center for $4,026.81 representing half of the proceeds from the event. WDCF Vice Chair Kimberly Crow praised Quillian for the way it touches so many families in our community. “My own kids attended Quillian’s summer camps for many years, so I’ve seen first-hand what an impact Quillian has on families in Westchase District,” said Crow, in making the presentation.
