Sunday Press Enjoys Strong Opening at Camden Park | WESTCHASE DISTRICT

Park guests appreciate food and beverage options at park

Good to go: Sunday Press has enjoyed steady foot traffic since opening at Camden Park.

Westchase District has gained more than just a scenic green space with the opening of Camden Park — it also hosts a café experience that’s rare among Houston’s city parks. Sunday Press, a local brunch favorite, opened its doors at the park in April, offering fresh, fast-casual fare and a welcoming community space for parkgoers.

The restaurant is the latest location from co-owners Sandy Nguyen and Cassie Ghaffar, who also operate Sunday Press cafes in Garden Oaks and at Hermann Park. Known for its elevated yet approachable menu — including breakfast entrees, sandwiches, wraps and house-baked pastries — the brand brings its signature style to Camden Park with the same emphasis on community, quality and connection.

“Sunday Press has always been about community and creating a space that brings people together around good food,” Nguyen said. “When we first visited Camden Park, it immediately struck us as a vibrant, intentional space built for people to connect.”

Baking for the community

Nguyen’s excitement for the location was evident even before the opening. During a construction visit, she was thrilled by the design and, most notably, the state-of-the-art pastry oven that now anchors Sunday Press’s baking operations. “This will allow us to have one production staff at one location to create all the pastries that Sunday Press is known for,” she said, noting the oven’s capacity to bake up to 1,000 croissants at a time.

That production capability has already become a vital part of their operations, supporting both in-park service and off-site catering and retail needs. “It’s given us more flexibility and control over quality and timing,” Nguyen said. “We’ve also started leveraging this space for small-scale catering orders and plan to expand that offering.”

Nguyen credited their previous experience at Hermann Park with preparing them for Camden Park’s unique operational rhythms. “We learned how to streamline service without compromising on quality,” she said. “A park-based operation requires you to be both flexible and hyper-efficient, and Hermann gave us the operational muscle to do just that.”

Exceeding expectations

One month in, Sunday Press is seeing a warm welcome from the Westchase community. “The response has been encouraging,” Nguyen said. “It’s a mix of regulars and new faces, and strong feedback on our menu. This is the first opening where it’s exceeded our expectations.”

Still, there have been some surprises. Nguyen said guests have gravitated toward grab-and-go items and wellness drinks over the more traditional savory breakfast dishes they expected to dominate. “Who knew so many people loved strawberry lemonades!” she joked. A curated kids’ menu has also proven to be a hit, prompting similar changes at other locations.

Nguyen emphasized the importance of adapting to customer preferences. “If you aren’t changing, you aren’t growing,” she said. “We’re already tweaking the menu and adjusting prep and service flows to meet peak-hour demands. Being adaptable is key, especially in a setting like this.”

Good luck and fortune: Sunday Press co-owners Cassie Ghaffar and Sandy Nguyen celebrate the opening of their restaurant with a lion dance, a Chinese folk tradition representing good luck and prosperity.

With strong early momentum and a clear connection to the community, Sunday Press is poised to become a go-to spot for Camden Park visitors looking to relax, refuel and reconnect.
